During the game, Umpire’s word will be final.

1. The Serve

  • There are two serves per play should the first be a fault
  • Teams are required to rotate each time they win the serve
  •  Server must serve from behind the end line until after contact
  •  Ball must be served underhand or overhand
  •  Ball must be clearly visible to opponents before serve
  • The ball must clear the net and not be touched by another team member
  • If the served ball grazes the net and drops to the other side, umpire will call “NET” and it will be repeated at no loss of 2nd serve
  • First game serve is determined by a coin toss, each subsequent game shall be served alternately
  • Serve may be returned directly, no spiking from a serve will be allowed
  • Server must wait for umpire whistle and then has 5 seconds to complete the serve

2. Scoring

  • Rally scoring will be used
  • There will be a point scored on every serve of the ball
  • The team winning the point gains the serve
  • Two sets will be played to 11 points
  • In the event of a draw, a tie breaker will be played to 7 points with the winning team having to win by two points

3. Teams

  • Team name is required at registration desk and the captain will be required to sign the indemnity form
  • The Captain is responsible for his team in full and for being on their assigned court on time
  • Uniforms are optional
  • Teams will consist of 4 players on each side plus two reserves per team
  • A player may not play for two teams in the final stages

4. Playing the Game

  • Maximum of three hits per side
  • A player may not hit the ball twice in succession (a block is not considered a hit)
  • A ball may be played off the net
  • A ball bouncing off the net during play is considered a hit
  • A ball touching a boundary line is good
  • A legal hit is contact with the ball by ANY part of the players body
  • If two or more players contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered one play and the players involved may not participate in the next play

5. Playing the Game

  • Hitting the ball illegally (carrying, palming, throwing etc)
  • Touches of the net with any part of the body while playing the ball
  • If the ball is driven into the net with such force that it causes the net to contact an opposing player, no foul will be called and the ball shall continue to be in play
  • Reaching over the net if it interferes with the ball or opposing player
  • Reaches under the net if it interferes with the ball or opposing player
