This blog is about news, results and photos of events hosted by Chain Gang Events.
The winter has at last hit our shores and with it welcome rain. It might be cold, but no excuse to get out and be active. Most of the younger generation are on holiday and I know that quite a few of them took part in the SA Duathlon Championships (end of June) and also the SA MTB XCM Championships. The Oyster Festival was also a huge success as we were blessed with really good weather for most off the events. Congratulations to all the podium winners and especially the youngsters that show their class at most of the events.
The Tiletoria Trans Elands MTB event (Jeffreys Bay) over the weekend of 9 June 2018 was a huge success and many congratulations to Leon, Christine & their support team. This event will definitely grow, as the routes transverse some of the tougher sections of the annual Trans Baviaans and thus almost a “must-do” for any aspiring Baviaans riders to test where they are with their fitness. Chain Gang Events took care of the timing of the event. Here is the link to the final results: Trans Elands 2018 – Results. I will keep you posted on entries for 2019.
On the weekend of 30th June the annual Trail Girl 2018 2-day Stage Race took place in the Wilderness area and Chain Gang Events also took care of the timing and results for the event. Here is the link to the TrailGirl Facebook Page and also the Results Link. Keep your eyes open for announcements on the new Trail Girl event in Wellington, middle November.
The second event of the Eden Spur MTB Schools League 2018 will be hosted at the new Oakhills School MTB Track (Knysna) on the 28th of July. Alton Bunge and his team are working hard to get the track in top condition. If you have not entered for the whole series, please ensure that you enter for the upcoming event at: Online Entry Link. List of riders that have already entered: Entrant List. The 3rd event will also take place at the same venue on the 18th of August – online entries for that event will open on the 1st of August.
Madibaz #3 event is also already open (Online Entry Portal) and will take place on Sunday 5 August. The program is available (Madibaz Website) and additional information like the route maps and profiles will be made available soon as well. The series leaders and results: Results Link
The RCS Southern Cross (SOX) 3 day Trail Run will take place 10-12 August 2018 with CGE taking care of the timekeeping (for the 5th year since inception). The online entries are still open and if you follow this link you can qualify for a 10% discount on the normal entry fee (Christmas in July!): Discount Link for SOX Full & Discount Link for SOX Lite. The event is one of the premier events in the CSM stable and as an appetizer, some of the pictures taken during the 2017 event: 2017 Album. More information can be found the Website, but to qualify for the discounts, the above links need to be followed. Hope to see you there.
The annual MTO Tour de Plett will take place on 6th October 2018 and since there are some great prizes to be won from ASG if you enter online before 1st September, I also include it on the newsletter: Online Entry Portal. CGE will take care of the timing and results for the event, so please support this fund-raising effort for the Kwano Cycling Academy and also enjoy a great ride. Three distance available: 87km, 60km, 45km & 16km.
Hosting events have become more and more expensive (maybe linked to the fuel price) and one just have to look on how many events are cancelled these days because of funding. To enable organisers to host “affordable” events, we rely on volunteers to assist us and thus, if you are not an “elite” or “weekend warrior” athlete, but still want to be “part of an outdoor experience”, please contact me to volunteer. The same with sponsorships: If you are a business owner and want to get your name out there to an “active group of individuals” and also be part of your marketing drive (as a participant or team-building effort for your staff), please contact me and we can discuss.
