Red Men Trail Run 2020 Information

Firstly I want to wish you a Happy and Prosperous 2020 and many injury free running/walking miles. Thank you for your support.

Below is the most critical information about Saturdays’ event and answers to the most FAQ. Please have a read and let me know if you have any additional questions – also read the Safety Rules section carefully. Otherwise safe travels and see you Saturday morning bright and early.

Programme for Saturday 4 January 2020

06:30-07:30 Registration and Late Entries (max 200 runners) – Herold Wines Conference Room.
08:00 Start of 5km and 18km
08:10 Start of 12km
11:00 Prize Giving

Venue

On the sunlit north facing slope of Cradock Peak, the highest crest of the Outeniqua Mountain range running parallel to the Southern Cape coast and creating part of the scenic attraction of the Garden Route, is the flourishing Herold Wines vineyard. Bounded on three sides by nature reserve, it is a remote and idyllic setting, the vineyards embraced by lofty mountains covered with dramatic stands of fynbos.

Coffee will be on sale from 06h30
Pre-ordered lunches can be collected from the Restaurant from 10:00. Boerewors rolls will also be on sale at venue.
Wine Tasting will be available as well as wine sales.

Watertables

There will be watertables on the routes as follows :

5km : 1 watertable at 2.5km
12km : 2 watertables at 4.5km and 9km
18km : 3 watertables at 2.5km, 9.5km and 14km

Safety Rules

For the 12km and 18km, the following : Camelback/Hydration pack, race food, suitable Trailrunning shoes, Space blanket, whistle, bomb bandage, sunblock / hat. (There will be no kit check – you know the importance of these items)

  • Route have some technical sections and the longer distance runners must be prepared to climb.
  • The area had some severe burning recently and this created exposed earth with corrosion holes – please tread carefully in the mountain areas.
  • During the marking many of the burnt trees and branches were removed, but there are still on the route – please have a look and do not trip.
  • Route is marked with bright orange ribbons, orange spray paint and barrier tape. Certain critical sections also have signboards with arrows and some with sepcific route names
  • Medical Support is available
